This week, we kicked off an exciting new project to further develop the OpenMapKit and help take field surveys and geographic data collection using OpenStreetMap to a whole new level. Working alongside the talented team at Stamen Design and The Red Cross, we will be enabling remote field surveys and OpenStreetMap editing completely offline.
The team is targeting new hardware, from cloud servers to embedded devices to run the new OpenMapKit Server. The server will integrate Field Papers coupled with the ability to aggregate surveys from OpenDataKit and OpenMapKit for a secure and completely offline end-to-end workflow. Of course the team will be developing out in the open and everything will be released under an open license.
The team is just getting started and you can follow along with the action here: https://github.com/AmericanRedCross/posm
